Ukraine: EU Advisory Mission conducts pre-election training for police in Odesa

March 21, 2019

This week, the European Union Advisory Mission (EUAM) conducted a training session for police officers in the Ukrainian city of Odesa on how to deal with violations of electoral law.

It was part of the series of trainings in the Odesa region supported by the EUAM and was aimed at over 250 police officers across the region.

“The facilitation of this work on behalf of EUAM contributes not only to raising awareness among police officers about the legislation governing elections, but also ensuring that the democratic rights of Ukrainian citizens are protected and the election is policed properly,” said the EUAM’s Head of Operations Udo Moeller.

The EUAM also organised a Regional Safety Strategy Management Board roundtable, which aimed to address the problems and emerging security challenges in the region. The event brought together high-ranking officials from law enforcement and security authorities of Ukraine, as well as the leadership of the Odesa Regional State Administration.
