Belarus: EU Heads of Mission visit Kurapaty

November 7, 2018

On 6 November, heads of diplomatic missions of EU Member States and their counterparts from other embassies present in Belarus visited Kurapaty, a wooded area on the outskirts of the country’s capital of Minsk where a vast number of people were executed between 1937 and 1941.

According to the EU Delegation to Belarus, it has become a tradition for diplomats serving in Minsk to gather on or around Dzyady – the time of year when Belarusians honour the memory of their forefathers – and visit sites such as Kurapaty and Trastyanets to commemorate the tragic fate of the victims of mass deportations and exterminations of the 20th century totalitarian regimes.
